Lessons learnt from the Election

The General Election – and three important lessons for starting your own recruitment business…

Although we’ve made it clear that a General Election is no excuse to shelve plans for starting your own recruitment business,

now that it’s happened it’s interesting to note that it’s thrown up some lessons for the would be recruitment entrepreneur.

  1. Don’t take things for granted.

It’s fair to say that the ‘party of government’ had made an assumption regarding the outcome of a ‘snap’ election. And it didn’t quite happen like that! If you’re thinking of starting up, it’s dangerous to assume that you’ll walk into a bank and walk out with full financial backing for your venture. It just doesn’t work that way. It’s overly optimistic too to assume that suppliers of legal services, IT, accountancy and premises, not to mention media owners, will happily give you credit. You’ll be  new, which means you have no track record.

  1. Timing is everything.

The after effect of the election is, to be frank, a bit of a mess. And that’s not going to help when there’s a certain forthcoming task regarding Europe to be dealt with. When you’re starting your own recruitment business it makes eminent sense to make sure that you’ve ‘cleared the decks’ and created space in your life to concentrate on launching and running your business. It would be less than sensible for instance to start renovating a house when you’ve got a new business to develop.

  1. Perception is an interesting thing.

When it comes down to it, ‘the party of opposition’ are still the ‘the party of opposition’. They lost. But such was the verve with which they campaigned, and so great was their impact on the expected outcome that they appeared to be the winners. In fact this was an election where the winners looked like losers and the losers looked like winners.

Recruitment is almost as competitive as national politics. So, as a new business you’ll have your work cut out to impress clients and make your mark. You can do it if you have the premises, systems and branding in place from the word go. You’ll need the right backing of course, but you’ll make inroads more quickly if you’re perceived as a real business.

So, that’s all straightforward then! All you need to start your own recruitment business is a very high chance of getting the sound financial backing you need, all the services you need lined up and on tap, the security and peace of mind to ‘get on with the job’ and the sort of support that gets you into high street premises and fully operational – because perception is vital. Easy.

It is with us.

The Recruit Venture Group package has been designed by recruitment professionals.

We’re all about helping you start, own and run your own recruitment business. We’ll provide 100% funding to get you launched. You make no capital outlay or investment. You’ll have shares in, and dividends from, your own business. Able to pay yourself a salary you’ll have peace of mind and real focus. We’ll help you with premises, putting you on the high street for maximum impact. We’ll develop your branding and implement it, across your stationery, signage and website.

We do need to know that you’ve had five years recruitment experience. In depth knowledge of a specific sector would be an advantage – it’s a direction you could follow. But, if you can put a cross against those, you’re in with a very real chance of getting our vote.
