You’ve got the experience to set up your own recruitment business – so use it!
When you say ‘experience’ what do you mean exactly?
Fair question. This is a bit of a two-way street, to be honest.
Explain..
We’re in the business of helping recruitment professionals set up their own businesses. The fact is that we really expect them to have around three years’ consecutive experience in a specific sector and five years in the recruitment industry.
Sounds reasonable.
We think so. Most consultants, in our experience, start off by learning the ropes and then gravitate towards a sector in which they start to specialise. You know how it works. You prove yourself, then you get your own desk….
Sounds familiar….
We’re obviously on the same wavelength here. So let’s assume you tick those boxes. Five years or so in the business, and three of them in a specific sector. Now you’re thinking of starting up on your own….
Well, I didn’t exactly say that…
…. no, to be fair, you didn’t. But it would come as no surprise to us if that’s what you were thinking. So many recruitment consultants have such a high entrepreneurial drive that they want to do it their way, make their mark….
I didn’t exactly say that I’d never thought about it….
Calm down. This isn’t a test! The point is that we know a lot about helping people set up their own recruitment companies. And, we know that after about three years running a desk or team in a dedicated sector of the market they’re often seriously considering starting up. We also know that that’s the ideal level of experience we need to see, to feel comfortable about backing them.
Could you enlarge on that?
Certainly. It works like this. We provide a complete package. Financial backing, shares in, and dividends from, your own company, as well as a full back office system, legal advice and serious input into your branding, website and even finding premises. Plainly, we look for people who know what they’re doing because that’s a lot of support to provide.
I get that. But the specific sector thing. Why is that so important?
It’s important for two reasons. One, it’s a good indication of your recruitment know-how and experience. Two, if you’re starting up your own business it’s a good idea to concentrate on an area you know well. And with three years’ work consecutively in a sector behind you, we figure you’ll know it well.
Now I think about it, I’m really quite experienced…..
Indeed. And what you’ve got is the right experience to start to do it your way, taking control of your own destiny. With our backing, you’ll be able to pay yourself a realistic salary from day one which means you can really get on with the job.
You know what? I could do this. I mean I do all the work now. I find the clients, match them to candidates, hit the budget targets, and all the time I’m doing it for someone else when I could be …
….. doing it for yourself! You know what? You’re starting to sound like a recruitment professional with three years’ consecutive experience in a specific sector who wants to put that experience to good use by starting up on their own.
Isn’t this where we started?
