If you’re having thoughts about starting your own recruitment business –
spare a thought for the ‘baby boomers’!
Why baby boomers! How does that help me launch a business?
The baby boomers. Sociologists have varying opinions about precisely when the ‘boomers’ started being born, and when the phenomenon stopped. But, in general terms they are the babies who were born between the end of World War 2, when the birth rate soared, and the mid-1960s, when it started to slow down again.
Why are they important to you as a recruitment professional? Do the math’s. They’re the ones who are retiring now. And it’s their disappearance that’s contributing to the ‘skills gap’, which in turn is a driver in creating the ‘candidate-led market’. It all links together. It all adds up and therefore states NOW a good time to start your own recruitment business.
You could argue that causes a problem. Will every recruitment consultant within a hundred miles of you be thinking the same? Will they all be making appointments with the bank manager creating more competition for you in terms of getting funding – and then more competition for you out there in the market? We don’t see it that way.
We see opportunities and we have funds available to see you into business.
A buoyant recruitment market will doubtless drive a lot of would be entrepreneurs to the bank manager. It’s not an unreasonable move. But it could be difficult to get things moving. Banks don’t always ‘get’ recruitment. Even a well-constructed business plan can prove counterproductive. Displaying your in-depth knowledge of the business by highlighting the need for investment in systems and software, as well as making provision for the cash flow squeeze that will come with paying temporary workers before your clients pay you will, chances are, be seen as risk rather than realism. Pitfalls instead of potential.
We don’t see it that way, either.
At The Recruit Venture Group we specialise in backing start up recruitment businesses. Full initial funding is just part of the package. You’ll also receive shares in and dividends from – your own business. You’ll have access to a complete back office and support system. You run the business, without running the risk.
We do need to know that you have experience in recruitment. We look for about five years’ experience, with maybe two of them running your own desk. We’d like to see your business plan.
But once we get you up and running you’ll be able to pay yourself a salary, and that will help enormously in allowing you to focus on building your business.
If you’ve been thinking about it, now is the time to do something about it. Make the most of the retiring baby boomers. Start the business that will be your own baby.
