It’s quite a checklist

When it comes to starting up, it comes down to quite a checklist.

When it comes to starting up a recruitment agency, the services you need are of a list in themselves –

  1. IT. Accounts. Payroll. Marketing. Legal Advice….

That’s just for starters. In more ways than one. Because some of them you’ll need before you even open your doors; and you’re going to need all of them to be up and running from the moment you do.

A big checklist of vital requirements

It’s a big checklist of vital requirements, and it’s quite a task to juggle all of it as you try to launch your business. Some of those functions you may be able to handle ‘in house’, but that means taking on, and paying, members of staff before you’re earning anything as a business. Others – like legal services for example – you can outsource, but of course that also means ‘hiring’ the help, and again it means paying out before your income is coming in.

To rub salt into those wounds there are a couple of other issues to address.

Are you good a spinning plates?

Spinning all of those plates when you want to concentrate on setting up and running a recruitment business – so you can get on with recruitment – is time consuming and demanding. It distracts you from the core of the business, and it dispirits you too.

To bring In-house or outsource services ultimately costs you money

If you bring ‘In house’ or outsource, the services, as mentioned earlier, they will have to be paid for. Which means you’ll need to have sorted your funding well before you start acquiring the support you need to run the business. And, of course, seeing all those outgoings before any sign of earnings does tend to make your average bank manager somewhat nervous about being exposed to the risk of funding you.

Which brings it full circle. Except that there’s yet another worry. Over and above the list of services, and the list of things to do in order to be able to even ‘pitch’ to a bank manager, there’s the list of specific recruitment systems you’ll need in order to operate professionally and competitively. They of course have to be sourced, and paid for, which means you need funding – before you can start.

It rapidly becomes a check list of checklists, and they all need ticking at the same time.

A single source of help

So, ideally, a single source of help would be the answer. Somewhere you could turn to for support and guidance on everything from initial funding to operational back up.
